The shrine of the heart, the jewel of the mind

The wealthy have millions in gold,
But for me, the poor, I have only you.
Some wear necklaces of pearls,
Golden crowns, or silver bells upon their feet.
Some find beauty in the stain of henna—
But when will I see the beauty of your desire?

Gold, silver, diamonds, and stone—
A thousand ornaments exist to deck the body.
But the only jewel of my heart is you.

Some seek Swayambhu, some Pashupatinath,
Some wander to Kashi,
Some journey to Mecca or Medina,
Others live as hermits in the forest.
East, West, North, or South—
In every corner of the earth,
They seek a hundred shrines to meet their God.
But my Pathibhara is only you.

Some pride themselves on youth or strength,
Some on wisdom or the weight of their intellect,
Others meditate on status or on gold.
Greed, longing, attachment, and love—
Happiness and sorrow are but two days of sun and shade.
The world lives and dies in a hundred different ways,
But my birth and my death... are only you.
